Washington Free Beacon – Right Report https://right.report There's a thin line between ringing alarm bells and fearmongering. But for How Long? https://right.report/america-is-moving-right-but-for-how-long/ https://right.report/america-is-moving-right-but-for-how-long/#respond Sun, 20 Oct 2024 00:02:25 +0000 https://right.report/america-is-moving-right-but-for-how-long/ Finally, some good news: “No Matter Who Wins, the US Is Moving to the Right,” reads the headline of David Weigel’s recent piece in Semafor. Nor is Weigel the only one who’s noticed. Listen to Kamala Harris abandon her past positions, watch Democratic ads on television, or read the latest polling, and the trend line is clear. The Democratic Party is scrambling to catch up with an electorate that has moved to the right on energy, immigration, crime, and gender identity. Five years ago, as a candidate for the Democratic nomination, Harris catered to the social justice Left. Now she tells Oprah she’ll shoot intruders with her Glock. That’s what I call progress.

The turnaround is sudden. Having secured the presidential nomination without winning a single primary and with three months to go before Election Day, Harris was forced to improvise. Gone was the candidate who wanted to abolish private health insurance, decriminalize border crossings, ban fracking, phase out the internal combustion engine, and close private prisons. A new Harris was born. When she couldn’t ignore her earlier policies, she repudiated them.

Today Harris says that if she’s elected, current health care arrangements will remain in place. She’ll work with Congress to build the southern border wall and reduce illegal immigration. Fracking will continue, but electric vehicle mandates might not. She’ll keep sending military aid to Ukraine and defend America and Israel against Iran. Her legislative agenda will use the tax code to redistribute wealth to first-time homebuyers, small businesses, and parents. Republicans will sit in her cabinet. The business sector will influence her administration.

This isn’t Build Back Better. It’s Build Back Barely, as circumstances allow.

And circumstances are not good for the Left. Four years of the Biden presidency have diminished Bernie Sanders and the democratic socialist “Squad.” The revolutions of 2016 and 2020 belong in the past. Sanders hopes that Harris doesn’t mean what she says. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez grows comfortable in the party establishment. Two “Squad” members lost Democratic primaries. Harris brags that Goldman Sachs is on her side. […]

Sheriffs in Battleground Pennsylvania Overwhelmingly Endorse Trump https://right.report/sheriffs-in-battleground-pennsylvania-overwhelmingly-endorse-trump/ https://right.report/sheriffs-in-battleground-pennsylvania-overwhelmingly-endorse-trump/#respond Sat, 19 Oct 2024 23:11:33 +0000 https://right.report/sheriffs-in-battleground-pennsylvania-overwhelmingly-endorse-trump/ Nearly three-quarters of county sheriffs in battleground Pennsylvania signed a letter endorsing Donald Trump on Thursday, citing the Republican presidential nominee’s “leadership and ability to safeguard our country.”

“[Trump] understands the critical role that law enforcement plays in maintaining safety, stability, law and order. And that’s why we are confident in his leadership and his ability to safeguard our country,” the letter reads. Forty-nine of the 67 county sheriffs in Pennsylvania signed the endorsement, Fox News reported.

“We are proudly standing with President Donald J. Trump and wholeheartedly endorse his candidacy for President of the United States,” the letter continued.

Taking a swipe at Vice President Kamala Harris’s record as President Joe Biden’s “border czar,” the sheriffs praised Trump as “the only candidate who has supported and continues to support law and order.”

“This is most evident with our Southern Border,” the sheriffs said. “Without his strong leadership, our border has been swung open—open to thousands of border crossers each day and unimaginable quantities of lethal drugs such as fentanyl and methamphetamine that are pouring right into Pennsylvania communities, bringing crime and devastation to countless families.” […]

Iowa House Candidate, Running as Moderate Democrat, Touted His Progressive ‘Ideals’ During Conference With Liz Warren https://right.report/iowa-house-candidate-running-as-moderate-democrat-touted-his-progressive-ideals-during-conference-with-liz-warren/ https://right.report/iowa-house-candidate-running-as-moderate-democrat-touted-his-progressive-ideals-during-conference-with-liz-warren/#respond Sun, 13 Oct 2024 00:53:44 +0000 https://right.report/iowa-house-candidate-running-as-moderate-democrat-touted-his-progressive-ideals-during-conference-with-liz-warren/ Iowa congressional candidate Lanon Baccam has run his campaign as a moderate Democrat, but the former Obama administration bureaucrat touted his progressive ideals at a far-left conference in 2018.

Baccam that year sat on a panel, “Rural ≠ White,” at the Netroots Nation convention, which bills itself as the “largest annual conference for progressives.” That year, the event featured Democratic Sens. Elizabeth Warren (Mass.) and Cory Booker (N.J.), as well as then-Sen. Kamala Harris (Calif.). Vox described the convention as “Warrenmania.”

“Rural areas are ripe for big gains for Democrats and progressives, and having this conversation about how rural is not white will show us a way in which we can organize and do outreach to rural areas into a community that will be sympathetic and empathetic to our causes and our issues,” Baccam said ahead of the panel.

“Making sure we tell our story, spread our message, and have that hard conversation that people don’t want to have in these rural areas is key,” he continued. “And you’d be surprised how many people will be willing to support folks who are progressive and have our types of ideals.” […]

How Harris Bombed Her Media Blitz https://right.report/how-harris-bombed-her-media-blitz/ https://right.report/how-harris-bombed-her-media-blitz/#respond Sat, 12 Oct 2024 05:04:32 +0000 https://right.report/how-harris-bombed-her-media-blitz/ Michael Dukakis shows up in a tank. George H.W. Bush checks his watch during a debate. John Kerry says he was for the $87 billion for Iraq before he was against it. Mitt Romney writes off the 47 percent of voters who receive government benefits. Hillary Clinton lambastes the deplorables.

Such moments brought clarity. They defined the candidates. They laid out the stakes. They changed the story.

Add another to the list. On Tuesday, Kamala Harris appeared on The View. A friendly host asked if there’s anything she would do differently than President Biden. Harris hesitated, as if she hadn’t anticipated or understood the question.

That was typical. Her answer was not. “There is not a thing that comes to mind,” she said.

Oof. Not only did Harris take ownership of the Biden record. She displayed a startling lack of independence. Not a thing comes to mind? Not the inflation that’s gnarled the economy, not the millions of illegal immigrants who have crossed the southern border, not the widespread feeling of social disorder in cities and on campuses, not the withdrawal from Afghanistan, handling of Ukraine, nor the regional war in the Middle East?

Harris says no. She’s proud of this administration. She stands by her man. “I’ve been part of most of the decisions that have had impact,” she added. And what impact: a president with 41 percent job approval and a nation where just 22 percent of people are satisfied with the direction of the country. […]

Blowing the Blue Wall? Democratic Strategists, Donors Fear Harris Is Slipping in Crucial Swing States https://right.report/blowing-the-blue-wall-democratic-strategists-donors-fear-harris-is-slipping-in-crucial-swing-states/ https://right.report/blowing-the-blue-wall-democratic-strategists-donors-fear-harris-is-slipping-in-crucial-swing-states/#respond Fri, 11 Oct 2024 13:11:38 +0000 https://right.report/blowing-the-blue-wall-democratic-strategists-donors-fear-harris-is-slipping-in-crucial-swing-states/ With Election Day less than four weeks away, Democratic strategists and donors fear that Vice President Kamala Harris is losing ground in the crucial “Blue Wall” states of Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Michigan—which could cost her the election.

The Democrats’ fears come as Harris’s polling leads have shrunk or even disappeared in the Blue Wall states even as the vice president has received favorable media coverage and good marks for her debate performance against former president Donald Trump, Axios reported.

Harris had a more-than-2-point lead in Pennsylvania following the Sept. 10 debate, but that lead has shrunk to about half a point as of Thursday, according to an average of polls from The Hill. In Wisconsin, Harris held an almost 5-point advantage over Trump following the Democratic National Convention in August, a lead that has also fallen to about half a point. Trump holds a half-point lead over the vice president in Michigan, a state where Harris led throughout August and September. Some polls even have Trump ahead of Harris in Wisconsin and Michigan.

Trump was able to sweep all three states in the 2016 election, allowing him to beat then-candidate Hillary Clinton. Democrats fear a similar sweep in light of Harris’s record-low approval ratings among working-class voters and multiple unions’ decisions to withhold their endorsements. […]
