On Wednesday, Robert F Kennedy Jr, who has been nominated to serve as Secretary of Health and Human Services, cleared the last procedural hurdle before his confirmation vote will take place in the Senate. The vote was 53-47 in favor of invoking cloture.
The Senate Finance Committee had voted to advance Kenendy’s nomination earlier in February with a vote of 14 to 13.
During his confirmation hearing, Kennedy was questioned about a measles outbreak that occurred in Samoa in 2019, saying, “I never gave any public statement about vaccines, you cannot find a single Samoan who will say ‘I didn’t get vaccinated because of Bobby Kennedy.’ I went in June of 2019, the measles outbreak started in August.” He later declared, “I support the measles vaccine, I support the polio vaccine, I will do nothing as HHS secretary that makes it difficult or discourages people from taking either of those vaccines.”
Kennedy also declared during his hearing that “I agree with President Trump that every abortion is a tragedy. I agree with him that we cannot be a moral nation if we have 1.2 million abortions a year… I serve at the pleasure of the President—I’m going to implement his policies.” […]
