President-elect Donald Trump has announced that former congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard will serve as the next Director of National Intelligence (DNI). In a statement released Monday, Trump highlighted Gabbard’s military background and bipartisan appeal, praising her dedication to national security and constitutional rights.
“For over two decades, Tulsi has fought for our Country and the Freedoms of all Americans,” the statement read. “As a former Candidate for the Democrat Presidential Nomination, she has broad support in both Parties – She is now a proud Republican! Gabbard, who served in the US House of Representatives for Hawaii’s 2nd Congressional District, enlisted in the Army National Guard following the 9/11 terrorist attacks. She deployed to Iraq in 2004 with the 29th Brigade Combat Team and later served a second tour in the Middle East as a platoon leader. Her political career began upon her return, eventually leading to a presidential run as a Democrat in 2020.
Gabbard officially left the Democratic Party in 2022, later endorsing Trump during the 2024 presidential race and joining the Republican Party.
