Vice President-elect JD Vance on Tuesday revealed that President-elect Donald Trump is looking to replace FBI Director Christopher Wray in his next administration.
Trump has been filling out his cabinet and other key administration positions since he was elected back to the White House two weeks ago. But the former president has not indicated recently whether he would replace Wray, who he appointed to the position during his first administration in 2017.
Vance explained in a since-deleted post on X that he missed a Senate vote on Monday because he was helping Trump interview candidates for several government positions. The vote resulted in the Senate confirming a liberal judge to the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals.
“When this 11th Circuit vote happened, I was meeting with President Trump to interview multiple positions for our government, including for FBI Director,” Vance wrote in response to GOP criticism, per Politico. “I tend to think it’s more important to get an FBI director who will dismantle the deep state than it is for Republicans to lose a vote 49-46 rather than 49-45. But that’s just me.”
The FBI has not responded to reports that the new administration could be seeking to replace Wray before the end of his term in 2027, but the director indicated in April that he would like to remain in the position should Trump win reelection. […]
